Situated in Guangdong Province, China, Shenzhen is a city with a population of over 12 million people. Any of the travel guides of China does not say much about this city except the fact that it is good only for shopping.
The impression is changed now due to its fast growth. Shenzhen is a sub-provincial city of southern China and is well-known for its great immediacy with the border of Hong Kong. Shenzhen is a hub of foreign investment and it has been one of the fastest growing cities in the world since the late 1970s. It also holds the busiest port in China after Shanghai. Now-a-days Shenzhen is a lively, multi-ethnic city that offers variety of cultural and leisure venues for travelers, as well as endless shopping and dining.
Shenzhen has three most famous city center places, Diwang Building, Grand Theater and Citizens’ Center, which attract thousand of tourists year round. With 69 floors, Diwang building is the tallest building in Shenzhen and is the symbol city’s fast growth. This building is home to the most high-status firms in the city. You can have a view over the whole city from the viewing deck in the 68th floor. Mix C, a multi-storied shopping center, is situated just opposite to the Diwang building. It has ice rink, cinema, and lots of international style restaurants.
Shenzhen Stock Exchange is situated near the Diwang. Completely renovated in 2006, Grand Theater is the best place to enjoy classical music and traditional Chinese music events. Near the Grand Theater is Lychee Park. A picture of Deng Xiao Peng, the “father of Shenzhen”, is displayed on the signboard which is placed on the corner of the park. Deng Xiao Peng made the plan to develop Shenzhen in to a global scale metropolis from a fishing village.
Citizens’ Center was built when the government decided to change the central business district out of the city center. Citizens’ Center is a large government building with “bird shape” roof. Children’s Palace amusement center and exemplary New Shenzhen Library near the Citizen’s Center are also worth visiting. New Exhibition Center which is built in typical Shenzhen style is around half a mile from the Citizens’ Center.
The Window of the World, Chinese Folk Culture Villages, Happy Valley, Splendid China, the Dameisha Promenade, the Safari Park in Nanshan district, Xiaomeisha Beach Resort in Yantian district, Zhongying Street, Xianhu Lake Botanical Garden, and Minsk World are some of the major place of tourist interest. There are several public park which offers free admission including Lianhuashan Park, Lizhi Park and Wutongshan Park. Shenzhen has several well-known restaurants which provide various mouth-watering cuisines and you can taste your favorite food from these restaurants.
The Window of the World is a theme park which is situated in the western part of Shenzhen. It holds around 130 reproductions of some of the well-known tourist attractions in the world. Most folks generally love to holiday in far off place especially with their families or friends and explore a world full of fantastic and exciting locations including the many wonders of Europe, Asia, Africa and the America.
So where could we start our dream tour? How about making our first stop in Paris the capital of France? Paris is a big vibrant city with famous landmarks such as Notre Dame Cathedral, the River Seine and of course the famous Eifel Tower
Let’s stay in Europe and make our next destination Rome. The capital city of Italy is certainly one of the most ‘must see’ places anywhere in the world, with a history dating back to 753 BC, the city is filled with ancient monuments including The Colosseum, The Roman Forum and the Pantheon to name but a few.
No trip to Europe would be complete without visiting Greece. A county with a rich cultural history, that was home to the earliest civilizations and the birthplace of art, philosophy and science. A popular tourist destination, Greece has much to offer including the Acropolis, the Parthenon and many beautiful beaches.
The land of the Pharaohs is our next stop on our dream holiday tour. Egypt has become one of the most popular destination spots in the world with tourist attractions like the Pyramids of Giza and the Valley of the Kings at Luxor. No trip to Egypt would be complete without taking a trip on a riverboat down the Nile and exploring Egypt’s rich cultural history.
Our next stop is across the Atlantic to the United States. In recent years the USA has become a Mecca for tourists across the world with such attractions as the Golden Gate Bridge, the Grand Canyon, Las Vegas and of course Orlando which is considered by many to be the ‘Entertainment Capital of the World’
To complete our dream tour I would definitely steer a course to Asia and the country of China. Catering for more than 46 million tourists a year China has become an important tourist destination. With world famous attractions such as the Forbidden City where you will find the Imperial Palace and of course one of the Seven Wonders of the World -namely The Great Wall which is so long that it can be seen clearly from space.
CHINA- A Land Of Wonder And Discovery By Elana Andersen

China was first placed on my travel wish list in 1969 when I visited Hong Kong’s New Territories during China’s Cultural Revolution.Tourists were not allowed passage across the border and the only view offered was through a barbed highway barrier and from the “Little Red Book†of Mao Tse-Tung quotations sold by roadside hawkers. After these many years I finally made my journey into China and traveled with Laurus Travel, a
Canadian tour operator that specializes in China and small group adventures. The focus of the trip was Tibet and the Silk Road. Every day of the journey was filled with wonder and making connections with the people and places visited. I’m anxious to return and experience more of China’s diverse culture, landscapes and heritage.
Shanghai
One of China’s premier examples of modernization is quickly regaining its
pre-WWII status as the most important business center in East Asia. There remain a few examples of its colonial past, including the buildings along the Bund, the main road fronting the Huangpu River in the old harbor and financial district. In contrast, across the river is the city’s new economic zone; the city’s iconic structure, the Orient Pearl TV Tour; and the Jin Mao Building, one of the tallest in the world. The city’s Shanghai Museum is considered one of the best in the nation.
Beijing
This city has more than 1,000 years of imperial history and is the nation’s spiritual and political center. The must-see attractions include the Forbidden City, Tian’anmen Square,The Temple of Heaven and the Summer Palace. Groups often enjoy an evening at the Chinese Opera, acrobatic shows or dining at a traditional Peking duck banquet. A short distance from the city is the Great Wall and the Ming Tombs.
Hong Kong
Returned to China in 1997, this city has many reminders of its British Colonial times and is an throngs of faithful pilgrims prostrate themselves in devotion and pilgrimage rituals prior to entering the temple. One of the largest monasteries in the world, Drepung, is located just outside Lhasa. It was founded in 1416 and once was the site of instruction for more than
ten thousand monks. It received little damage during the Cultural evolution.
An interesting and scenic trip is to travel a 70-mile route on the Lhasa-Nepal Mountain Highway to the Yamdrok Yumtso holy lake pilgrimage site. From there travel west to Tibet’s second largest city, Xigatse. It sits in a farming area and is home to the Tashilunpo Monastery, headquarters of the Panchen Lama, leader of the Yellow Sect of Tibetan Buddhism.
Silk Road
Xi’an, China’s first Imperial Capitol, dates from 2205 B.C. From here, the western territories encompassed the vast Taklamakan Desert, which had
scattered oases and a population of nomads. Urged by myths about ivilizations beyond the desert, a 100-man expedition was dispatched in
139 B.C. to seek allies that would help to halt invading forces from the north. Two men returned 13 years later with no alliances but they did have news about Central Asia, Persia and the Mediterranean. It wasn’t long before
trading expedition routes were set in place. Western caravans brought cucumbers, figs, chives, sesame, walnuts, grapes, wool, linen and ivory to China, and exports included jade, porcelain, lacquer ware, oranges, peaches, pears, roses, chrysanthemums, cast iron, gunpowder, paper and, its most desired commodity, silk.Xi’an was the staring point of China’s three Silk Road routes with the main tributary heading northwest and and Kyrgyzstan. Kashgar has been the main trading and goods-transfer hub since the first Silk Road caravan arrival.Because of its remote location, the city’s prosperity and ethnicity have alleviated scrutiny from various government and political philosophies. It was first a Buddhist community boasting over 100 monasteries; however, with the Silk Road population influx, Islam entered
the region around 1000 A.D. and continues to be the predominant faith.

Home to 15 million, Beijing has for centuries been one of the world’s centers of culture. The land here has been occupied for over 3,000 years. As a result, visitors face the well-known traveler’s dilemma – too much to see with too little time – amplified many times over. One of the most famous attractions is not even in the city itself, but about 60-125km (35-75 mi) outside it – the Great Wall. (The distance varies depending on the desired viewing location.)Not as old, but just as impressive a man-made achievement is the Imperial Palace, often referred to as the Forbidden City. So named because for centuries the common people were not allowed to freely enter. And sometimes wished they hadn’t gone when invited! To get an excellent high view of the city itself, take a trip to Jingshan Park, built in 1179 AD. It looks out over the Forbidden City and features spectacular views of Beijing and the surroundings.Beijing has much more than religious temples, however, in which to find a peaceful atmosphere. The park at Yiheyuan is a 290-acre retreat, where visitors can wander through pavilions and over bridges near the enormous lake. Sit a while and sip tea at one of the many tea-houses there or stroll along one of the many tree-lined paths.Be sure to take at least half a day and visit the equally famous Beijing Zoo. Home to nearly 600 species, the pandas may be the most well known, but they’re far from the most exotic. The over 6,000 animals housed there are drawn from all over the country and many parts of the world.
Spring or Fall is probably the best time to visit – Beijing can be quite cold in the winter and summers are often uncomfortably hot. But anytime of year you visit, there will be sites and sights galore worth seeing.

Hong Kong commonly, called ‘the city of contrast’ or ‘the best city of Asia’ has been the favorite destination among the tourist in Asia. The tourism industry has been an important part of the Hong Kong’s economy. The individual Visit Scheme was introduced in 2003 and thus, increased the Chinese tourist to the mainland. Xian – The Ancient Capital Of China With Its Terracotta Army

Say Xian and you talk about the terracotta warriors. The army of 8,099 life-size soldiers and horses is one of the most impressive tourist attractions in the world. But the ancient capital of China has more to offer.
Ancient capital? Yes, Xian (also Xi’an and in the past known as Chang’an) was the Empire’s main city from the 11th century BC to the early 10th century AD. A total of 73 emperors ruled China from here. Located between rivers and mountains in the southern part of Central China’s Guanzhong Plain, it was also the eastern starting-point of the famous Silk Road that connected the Far East with Europe. An historically important city, in other words, and luckily much of its historical and cultural heritage has been preserved.
Notwithstanding the glorious past Xian is a modern city and Central China’s largest industrial center. It is believed Xian was the world’s first city with a population over 1 million. Now 8 million live here.
The tourist industry has quickly developed in recent years and you can now find hotel rooms for any budget. Many eateries still offer Chinese cuisine, but fast food restaurants have become serious competitors and are popular amoung young people. There’s so much to see in this ancient capital that I can’t list it all here, so let’s just mention a few highlights:
The city wall
The oldest part of Xian, dominated by a huge bell tower, is surrounded by an ancient city wall with gates at the eastern, western, southern and northern side. It’s pretty wide and an attraction in itself: you can hire a bike to ride on it! But you can also walk, on the wall and around it. The wall’s illuminated at night – you’ve got to see that!
Big Wild Goose Pagoda
This is the city’s symbol. This seventh century pagoda (64 m high) is found at Ci’en Temple and offers a great view.
Great Mosque of Xian
One of China’s oldest mosques was built 685-762 at the eastern end of the Silk Road. There are still 60,000 Muslims in the city who use this mosque as their place of worship. It’s subdivided into four courtyards and renowned for its beautiful art work.
Terracotta army
The terracotta warriors were discovered in vaults in 1974 and are now called the Eighth World Wonder. They have their own museum with a floor space of 20,000 square meters. Go and see the army. Standing face to face with the warriors is a mind-blowing experience!
If you have the time, this is the third city in China (next to Beijing and Shanghai) you must see!

Hong Kong was once a sleepy fishing village. But, with the arrival of the British in 1842, it became a crown colony of the United Kingdom, which continued until 1997, when the British handed it over to China, after signing an historic agreement by the then prime minister of the UK, Margaret Thatcher, and the then Chinese President, Deng Xiaoping.
The city has now become one of the vibrant destinations in the world, apart from being a prominent economic center in Asia. The World Tourism Organization rates the city among the 15 most preferred tourist destinations in the world. Al though a part of China, Hong Kong is quite different from rest of the nation, and has its own government and legal systems, monetary policy, and immigration policy. Situated in Eastern Asia, bordered by the South China Sea, it is made up of three areas, such as, the Hong Kong Island, Kowloon Peninsula, and the New Territories as well as the Outlying islands including Lantau Island, Lamma Island, and Cheung Chau Island.
The center of economy, entertainment, and politics – Hong Kong Island is considered the heart of the special administrative region. Stretching from the Tin Hau to Chai Wan on the eastern part of the island is the prime residential area of the region. The northern part of the island is the main commercial as well as entertainment area, stretching from the Central District to Causeway Bay. Likewise, the southern part of the Island is home to some of the destinations that are abound in natural beauty, such as, Deep Water Bay, Repulse Bay and Ocean Park, which is one of the top-most theme parks in Southeast Asia.
However, most popular among the destinations in the island is the Peak, the highest point on the island that is perched at an altitude of 554 meters. The Peak serves as a perfect base to have a bird’s eye view of the whole of the thriving island as well as the spectacular Victoria Harbor, which is one of the three natural water harbors in the world.
One of the most popular ways to reach the Peak is to take a ride on the Peak Tram, which runs from the city center and reach here within seven minutes. Another stunning landmark of the island is Bank of China Tower – a soaring 70-storeyed building. In addition, situated on the southwest coast of the Island is the Cyberport, a high-tech facility supporting the multimedia, telecommunications, and IT industries.
The island is also much famed for its destinations including Aberdeen, a traditional village inhabited by hundreds of fishermen. From traditional style Chinese boats to most sophisticated boats, an amazing variety of fishing boats can be seen here. Further, located here are the HK Convention and Exhibition Center and Golden Bauhinia Square, which stands as a symbol to memorize the Return of Hong Kong to its motherland.
Kowloon is an exciting part of the city, and is considered one of the prominent industrial and commercial hubs of the nation. It is also home to one of the busiest airports in the world, namely, Kai Tak international airport. A ride on Star Ferry from Kowloon across Victoria Harbour to the Island would be a great experience. On utilizing the excellent options rendered by Kowloon, the city has now become a prominent shipping center in the world.
A visit to Hong Kong is incomplete without touring its amazing attractions such as Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank (HSBC) Building, Exchange Square and the International Finance Centre, Victoria Park and the Hong Kong Central Library, The Fringe Club and the Foreign Correspondents’ Club, Happy Valley and Sha Tin Racecourses, and Murray House.
